What does GeoLocate do?
Utility Coordination and Utility Records Research
Conduct a review of "As-Built" or "Record Drawings" and available plans, files, and documents of all public and private utilities and properties, regardless of size and all other facilities above and the substructures listed. This review will note all utilities within the public right-of-way and those located on private property impacted by proposed improvements.
- For areas that may need to be excavated, GeoLocate personnel, will include and perform easement review; to complete a detailed search including, but not limited to oil, gas, fuel, water, sewers, cable television, traffic control facilities, telephone, fiber optic cable, electrical conduit duct banks, storm drains, manholes, and other structures such as service laterals.
Physical Inspection and On-site Inspection to Locate "Orphan Utilities" *
- If requested, GeoLocate personnel will perform on-site inspection of each area utility and digitally record/photograph, if desired, or note all visible features that indicate utilities within the project area for comparison with utility plans and investigation of potential conflicts with known facilities and use special electromagnetic and similar instruments to locate "Orphan Utilities" (those substructures not documented or registered with USA's "Dig Alert" in California or "Blue Stake" in Arizona)
- Non-destructive Air/Vacuum SPOT HOLETM ("Soft Excavation") to expose and document "Key Utilities".
- GeoLocate personnel, as noted below, also assists the parent organization, SAF-r-DIG Utility Surveys, Inc., in performing Special Traffic Control functions, including Traffic Control Plan creation, provide licensed land surveyors to field locate and SPOT HOLETM as necessary. Surveyed locations are tied to the same controls used for the creation of the Base Maps required to obtain and appropriately document missing subsurface utility design data. AutoCAD, GPS, GIS options are also available through GeoLocate
NOTE: SAF-r-DIG Utility Surveys, Inc. performs all non-destructive air/vacuum SPOT HOLETM ("Soft excavation") work necessary: e.g., minimum two-day notification of USA's "Dig Alert" in California or "Blue Stake" in Arizona, provide visual verification and documentation of existing utilities for field survey, liability insurance and obtain required jurisdictional permits.

Mapping existing verifiable utilities onto most (not all are available) requested data mediums (Placing verified information on a paper or electronic map with a competent degree of accuracy).
Conversion of raw field data collected to Station & Offset or Northing / Easting / Elevation format referenced to any selected datum or reference point.
Stationing of project sites in requested format.
Virtual mapping of specific areas based on collectable data (Electronic designation, as-built maps, field assessment, etc).
Traffic Control Support
Traffic control support services are offered to all divisions as, for the present, a supplement to their existing capabilities for traffic management within their project areas. Types of services offered include, but are not limited to:
Reconnaissance of proposed project area to determine traffic control requirements for the specific work
Application of State DOT or WATCH manual for traffic controls
Drafting of traffic control drawings that are approved by the local authorities; tasked to oversee their development and implementation
Acquisition of standard traffic safety equipment (Traffic cones, signs, barricades, F.A.S. Boards, etc.)
Acquisition of special equipment (lighting, safety, testing, etc.) for rent or purchase
Barricading / Traffic & Channeling services, when required, for approach speeds up to and including 45 MPH (This item is situation-dependent and cannot always be determined by simply viewing the blueprints of an area. A site reconnaissance will be required in most cases)
